Phuket Attractions
Many cultures shaped Phuket
Different countries have influenced Phuket over the centuries. Their cultures blended harmoniously, creating a unique atmosphere. Various religions coexist peacefully here. The island’s capital is adorned with buildings in diverse styles — from small huts to luxurious villas. Restaurants serve delicious dishes from all over the world, and people of many nationalities live side by side.
To fully enjoy Phuket and feel its spirit, be sure to visit both man-made and natural attractions.
Chalong Temple — the largest temple in Phuket
This is not the only active temple on the island, but certainly the most famous. An entire district, Chalong, is named after it.
According to historical records, the temple was rebuilt in 1837. It’s more than just a temple — it’s a complex with halls for ceremonies, a crematorium, a bell tower, a library of sacred texts, and statues of revered monks (healers, herbalists, bone setters). Most areas are open to visitors.
But most tourists come here to see the ancient relic kept for centuries: a fragment of Buddha’s bone. Millions visit each year.
Big Buddha
A 45-meter statue highly revered by locals, located on a hill between Chalong and Kata. There’s also a viewpoint with stunning views of Rawai, Patong, Karon, Kata, Chalong beaches and Andaman bays.
The statue is still under construction, funded by donations from locals and tourists. It’s made of white marble, surrounded by bronze statues. A new temple is being built nearby.
Entrance is free. Souvenirs and donation boxes are by the gate.
Chinpracha House
Over 170 years old, this mansion was the first built in the Sino-Portuguese style. It’s a Phuket historical landmark and a popular spot for wedding photo shoots.
Furniture was brought from China, finishes from Europe, and the architecture inspired by an island in Malaysia — a truly international house.
Phuket Viewpoints
Promthep Cape — southernmost point, most popular viewpoint. Thousands come here to watch sunsets. There’s also a shrine, a lighthouse-museum, and cozy restaurants.
